Bright, well educated, impeccable sartorial taste. The perfect day begins with Purcell's Prince of Denmark march on the stereo followed by Bob Edwards (yes, Bob Edwards) on NPR. Fresh squeezed orange juice, strong coffee with cream, warm croissants with fresh jellies and preserves, maybe some eggs with cheese and an avocado. A long read of the New York Times, then maybe a mid-morning frolic with dog or wife or child. Then exercise, a run or bike ride or swim or row. Lunch--outside somewhere? A nice fresh lobster roll or pastrami sandwich or avocado turkey bacon club. Maybe a tomato salad. Lots of pelegrino grapefruit seltzer. In the afternoon an outing on a boat, or a game of tennis, or a round of golf with good company--a competitive, talented soul who carries one's end of the conversation. Dinner, light and italian in the summer, something heavier in winter. Cocktails before and after. Good conversation, no smokers. And music on the stereo--Rachmaninov? Astrid Gilberto? Jolie Holland? For every mood a music. All in a Tom Wolfe white linen double breasted suit, hand made shoes, french cuffs, and foulard. Hat? Not in the oughts.
