Who I am |
I am a 21 yo male who just moved to Madison to work on the election with the New Voters Project. Hailing from the Northwest, I think that Madison is a great place that’s an *acceptable* substitute for the life and streets of Portland. In all seriousness, I’ve liked everything so far. I have a degree in political theory and really enjoy Marx and Foucault, especially with applications to race and/or feminist political theory. Generally, I’m an activist for issues relating to the public interests. I don’t believe that corporations should be allowed to run roughshod over human beings by draining their pockets while poisoning their water and air, and I plan to do everything I can to stop it. Of course, I don’t think that direct advocacy is the end all solution though I do believe it is a component. Overall, I think that I’m generally a meliorist who believes that humans fall for their own faults and construct obstacles that bar their own potential. Breaking out of these chains may be impossible in their entirety; we could no longer construct such an awesome version of reality than “speak our own language” (to quote Jane Flax). However, I think that there are breaks in the tragedies our day and space for resistance, and that kind of life is just the best to live by anyway. Overall, I really think it just comes down to treating people with genuine empathy and understanding, and a realization that any revolution will be rooted in genuine compassion.

Whom I am seeking |
I’m really just looking for a somewhat likeminded person (I do like disagreements, however…) to hang out with. I’m new to Madison and I work an insane amount of hours, it’d be nice to meet someone to go grab a beer (or soda) with. Conversations and terrace hang outs are all cool things. Really, if you’re a cool person, let’s hang out.
