I dumped the rat race and my high tech job to move to rural America, raise my son without having to fight the pressure to ignore him for work-work-work, build my own house (that's it in the pic, it is a LITTLE further along than that now), and live more simply.
Now I am going to be relocating to West Virginia to work on my doctorate. I'm hoping to find a caretaker for my land. Otherwise, I'll have to sell - I really don't want to, but the doctoral program is 5 years.
I kayak, crochet, work with silver. I love reading. I'm a little burned out on camping, having spent the last 9 years living in a camper while I build my house (the house pictured is now "in the dry" - with windows and doors installed). I ride a road bike for distance - 30 to 60 miles is a good trip for me. I'm slow, but I go.
I'm NOT INTERESTED in money-grubbing.
I play harp and Native American flute. I like most types of music, but my favorite band is The Jayhawks. Also at the top are Pink Floyd, Hootie and the Blowfish, Counting Crows, Van Morrison, CSN/CSNY, CCR, well, just lots of other singers and bands.
I love cooking but have not had the chance lately - first there was no room in the camper, now I'm in graduate school. Don't much care for movies out or eating out except on rare occassions, and something exotic (like Thai, but NOT Outback). I'd rather be outside doing something than in a dark theater watching something I could just as well pick up on DVD a few months later for $10 or $15 (as opposed to driving 100 miles one way to a theater with sticky floors and $8 tickets). No time for or interest in couch potatoes - I want to hike, kayak, garden, or otherwise enjoy the outdoors, much preferable to "dinner out". Give me the exercise and the fresh air, keep the extra calories!
