I am more of a pragmatist. The current regime is not at all pragmatic. I do not subscribe to liberal positions in a knee-jerk mannner. Rather, I subscribe to posititions which combine moral virtues and pragmatism. Among other things, I am an engineer, so I appreciate things that work. The neo-con positions do not, in general, work. Regardless, "liberal" is supposed to mean promoting individual and collective liberty. Liberty for the individual. Personal economic security is a precondition to personal liberty. Full civil rights regardless of race, creed, social status, &c. is another precondition to personal liberty. Oh dear. I am in danger of writing a manifesto. I should be writing about how I like hiking and stuff like that.
