I enjoy playing guitar, singing, and song writing (I'm an amateur musician), eco-tourism and travel (I've lived abroad and visited around a dozen countries), other cultures, art and (especially foreign) films, small parties with good friends, reading and writing (and arithmetic), good wine (partial to white), animals (especially dogs), yoga, dancing, the outdoors...this is just the short list.

I am kind (even when angry), open-minded, understanding, and empathetic, but I also hold firm convinctions and can play the role of critic as needed. Friends tell me that I'm a good blending of the light and humorous with the thoughtful and analytical. I am intellectually curious but not overbearing about it. I like both the country and the city. I enjoy a soft, quiet, weekend at a B&B as much as a lively city Saturday night. I love the outdoors -- hiking, bicycling, touring -- but I also love plays, museums, galleries, and city energy generally. I love to travel and have lived abroad, but I also enjoy a reclusive, though sensual, weekend at home with someone I love. I have a mental picture of my theoretically ideal woman, but I also know that I do not live in a theoretical world. I live in a real world with real people, real problems. I don't care what you do for a living, what kind of car you drive, or any of that kind of stuff. I seek a woman whose orientation to the world around her is motivated by loving kindness and basic goodness. I care about what you're all about, what guides and drives you, your dreams and hopes.

I value people who: 1) take care of themselves both physically and emotionally. If you are destructive to yourself or others (or both), please do not contact me; 2) enjoy and value ideas and thought. If you enjoy the study of history, politics, literature, theology and spirituality, we should get off to a good start; and 3) are reasonably outgoing and are willing to take intelligent (not stupid) risks to broaden their emotional or intellectual boundaries and strengthen their life skills. You need to be reasonably articulate. Good grammar is good, as is good grooming. I tend to clash with perfectionists, dogmatists, and anti-intellectuals.
