By day, I am a writer with the federal government; by night, I am an environmental freelance writer. I spend much of my free time on outdoor activities, such as biking, swimming and hiking.
My A-list of activities also includes reading about history, nature, and wildlife, and reading, going to museums, travelling to places that shed light on why the world is the way that it is in all of its bizaro and intriguing dimensions. I am independent minded -- not the clingy type at all.
I am well educated (two masters degrees) and well travelled. I am a passionate but non-strident enviro/nature type. Forget the cliches about long walks on the beach -- my heart goes pitter-patter over offbeat phenomenon, like exploding volcanoes, tidal waves and baby elephants. (DC has a shortage of all of the above.)
I am a dance-to-my-own beat type who would usually (but not always) rather watch a documentary film than go to a Hollywood movie. Of course, I also value the typical DC activities -- museums, theater, barbecues, cafes etc, and marvelling at the latest political broo-ha-ha.
I seek someone who has some similar interests, but can also illuminate new areas. I treasure an eye-for-the absurd, and ability to laugh at the ironies of life. (But meanness is a big no-no.)
I run a travel-slide club, so when I say, "do you want to see some slides?", it is not a jive line. And I am one of the few people in the world who enjoys looking at other peoples' travel photos. Commitment-phobes need not apply.
