I am recently widowed and into my early 60s but don't age well. I'm still running 10K races and work out at the gym as if I was one of the studs (but I'm not a big muscular guy). I recently retired from a career in journalism but can't stop writing. Still freelance for some local papers. I often go to the beach to "recharge" by running at low tide and eating seafood. I'm in the process of writing my next chapter, trying to find the right social circles and especially a companion in this later-life journey. Please keep in mind that I'm not rich.
My interests include boating, cooking on the grill, theatre, movies and travel, especially to beaches and mountains. I also spend time with my grandkids. Sorry, I don't line-dance. I am a practicing Catholic but do not accept all of the teachings of the church. I do not have critical concerns about my match's religion.

My match would have to put up with my overly frisky Scottie (a Democrat who doesn't understand what Scotties are doing in the White House), my obsession with reading newspapers and my enjoyment of St. Pauli Girl beer. In return I just promise to be supportive and loving. I was married to the same woman for 35 years and prize my commitment. I'm a giver not a taker.

I chose this site because it is difficult to find people of my political persuasion in these deep South communities. Politics has always held a certain fascination to me and I feel a compelling loyalty to the Democratic organization, a least on the state and national levels.

Looking for slender, small of stature type since I'm not a big guy myself. But I don't rule somebody out if they happen to be a couple of inches taller. I prefer someone with a college degree or higher, but that's not an absolute. Wish I had loads of money to take my match to fancy restaurants and shopping and traveling all over the world. But I don't. So I guess that means I'm looking for someone who is not looking for that. Hope to find someone who can be happy cooking in or going out, watching TV or going to a movie, and putting up with family ties on occasions. But at this time in my life the most important thing is exploring new interests and sharing ideas about what is fun and exciting.
