I am old enough to have been a hippy chick in the 60's. I got my MS in Marine Science in New York in the late 60's, so I have always been tuned into environmental issues. Although I am now a divorced, overweight mother of 2 boys, I still feel the same passion to save the environment and our freedoms as I did 40 years ago. I live in a part of Ohio that votes democratic, but its still hard to find people my age who understand where our country is being led, much less see anything alarming about it.
I love my job in science, but I also like being outdoors and I like old cars. I like to take my 79 Camaro to cruise ins, but my boys did a number on the engine, which was old anyway. (But they weren't drag racing, according to them). I am waiting for my mechanic to have time to install the new engine and differential, and then we hope to take it to a few drag races and have fun with it. I realize its polluting the air, but my daily driver is a 4 cylinder so I hope that offsets it.
I listen to progessive talk radio everyday at work on the computer. We just had our local affiliate flipped to conservative garbage. I like to stay informed on progressive issues, but I am the "typical scientist" in that I am somewhat introverted in new situations. I don't make friends easily and am picky about who I want to spend time with.
