I am in a wonderful place in my life, with a rewarding career as a college professor and writer, nurturing friendships and family relationships, a rich spiritual life, and a love for new adventures. I was born and raised a Unitarian Universalist and have been politically active and involved in a wide variety of social justice causes since I was a teenager working with Young Democrats. As my life has grown and expanded, I have more and more longed for someone with whom I could share this journey. I'm happiest reading and listening to music, cooking with friends and family, playing with my dogs, hiking in the mountains, traveling the world, discussing world events, going to the movies, and spending weekends and holidays on the Outer Banks (where I have a condo). I am always interested in learning new things and visiting new places. With a condo at the beach, I am interested in spending weekends and holidays there and taking up new adventures -- sailing, flying, and hang-gliding or para-sailing -- but I need a teacher and companion.
I have been politically active for most of my life, thansk to my parents (a social worker and scientist). I've worked with both the Dems and 3rd parties, New Alliance in NYC and Greens in St. Louis. I was very active before and during the first two years of the occupation of Iraq. I served on the board for the local peace education center (though I am not a pacifist). In 2005, i travelled to Argentina to meet with community activists, labor groups, economiasts, and human rights advocates about the economic collapse (and its aftereffects) in 2002. I am a huge fan of Michael Moore and of the political documentary form he has helped establish and I have a pretty good collection of documentaries and other political films.
In the future I see myself continuing to teach and write, particularly for other teachers. I am most interested in finding a longterm sweatheart/partner with whom to share my life -- someone with whom I can share the events of my day, discuss the world around us, and join on a variety of adventures. I am an excellent cook, thanks to the instruction of my Italian mother and grandmother. I am quite health conscious and enjoy a wide variety of ethnic foods, Indian and Thai being my favorites, and I am always looking for good Chinese (very hard to find in the United States). While I am not a connoiseur, I love wine. I am in very good health and I powerwalk and work out with weights 6 days a week. I also enjoy hiking and walking in all sorts of locations. I have travelled throughout Europe several times and to several other parts of the world and travel is one of my great passions. I love film and have a very good private collection. I also love a wide variety of music (old and new) and browsing bookstores, flea markets, and thrift shops (you wouldn't believe what you can find there). I am quite creative, which is apparent from my home and the jewelry I make for others as gifts, and I have tried to create for myself a life of love, laughter, and compassion for people, animals, and the planet.
