Who I am |
More than anything, I love hiking, dancing and reading. From hiking, I usually get a sense of calm and peace, no matter what is happening in the world or in my life. Long hikes also give me valuable information as to the state of our environment. Dancing gives me (usually) good music, good work-outs (prefer faster dances like swing and salsa), friends and pleasant - often informative - interactions with other cultures. Staying in shape is very important to me, and both hiking and dancing help me accomplish this. Reading (all kinds of things, fiction and non-fiction) gives me almost everything else I need - from humorous relief, valuable information, interest, to (when I read womens' magazines) the latest on styles, fitness techniques and so on. These hobbies (particularly hiking and reading) convinced me long ago, that Green is the only political agenda for me. On this subject, though I usually vote Democrat (since the Democrats are far more responsive to environmental issues, than the Republicans - certainly than Bush the Younger!), I would prefer to be a member of the Green Party. If there were a strong, national Green Party in this country, I would not hesitate to join it. Certainly when I lived in Britain, I invariably voted Green - even in Sussex (the southeast), where the Conservative party has a great deal of strength. In the U.K., as in this country, I would love to see someone like Angela Merkel, of the German Green Party, elected Prime Minister and President, respectively. Were a nation as powerful as the U.K. - let alone the U.S. - to embrace the Green movement so strongly (not to mention the boost to feminism from the election of a female Prime Minister and/or President), it would show the world that there are, indeed, very serious problems with our earth. It would demonstrate clearly that rather than worrying about the latest religious fanatics (of any religion - definitely including Christianity), we should spend far more time and money trying to save our endangered planet, on which we all have to reside together, somehow. This ideal, though probably far away, is most definitely a large part of my vision for a better world.

Whom I am seeking |
Am looking for someone as active as I, and in similar physical condition (e.g., in good shape), regardless of age (I'm 51, by the way). Please do not smoke at all, or drink to excess. Am searching for someone who is not trying to convert anyone else - particularly me - despite religious convictions. Would prefer you to be spiritual, or oriented toward more than one religion. Please be honest, intelligent, educated, communicative, and tolerant. For both our sakes, I hope you have a sense of humor, since I defnitely do! Hope you are willing to at least try to appreciate some British comedians - John Cleese, Hugh Grant, Eric Idle, Rowan Atkinson, Dave Allen, and so on. Sincerely hope you are interested in world politics and events, as well as in the national and local scene. Hope you are open-minded toward other peoples, countries and cultures (including their musical styles), since I definitely am. (Moving around so much, to various places in different countries, with different languages and customs, when growing up, I had little choice!) Hope you like to dance, or are willing to try to learn, or at least don't mind if I go dancing without you. If it helps, I did not learn swing or any Latin (save tango and cha-cha) dances, until 2 years ago, after my divorce - at the age of 49. Now, I can do salsa with the best of them, though must admist my swing needs work. Finally and most importantly, since I have 2 kids (ages 12 and 14) living with me about half the time, please enjoy having fun with kids. Even when my kids leave the roost, which will happen with my daughter in only 5 years (time flies sometimes!), I will continue to teach - adolescents and high schoolers, unless by then, I have my Ph.D., and have moved on to teach college students. This means I will continue to have various activities and contacts with many kids and young people. So, if you do not like kids and youths, I believe things would be, at best, rather awkward between us. If you like pets, gardening, playing board, card or word games, these would be pluses.
